Time Zone Converter

Convert times between any two cities, with a live world clock.

Convert a date and time between any two time zones, see the offset between them, and check a live world clock for major cities. Pick a “from” and “to” zone, optionally set a specific time, and read the converted result.

It uses your device's built-in time-zone data (the IANA database), so it handles daylight saving automatically — and nothing is sent to a server.

Formula

Conversion

same instant, displayed in each zone

A moment in time shown as the local wall-clock time in both zones.

Offset

target UTC offset − source UTC offset

How far ahead or behind the target zone is, accounting for daylight saving.

How to use the time zone converter

  1. 1Choose the “from” and “to” time zones (grouped by region).
  2. 2Leave the time blank to use the current moment, or set a specific date and time.
  3. 3Read both local times and the offset; use the world clock for a quick global view.

How time-zone conversion works

Every place on Earth shares the same underlying instant; a time zone just decides what the clock on the wall reads. This converter takes one instant and shows it as the local time in two zones, along with the offset between them. Because it uses the IANA time-zone database built into your browser, daylight saving transitions are handled automatically — no manual adjustment needed.

UTC, offsets, and daylight saving

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global reference; every zone is expressed as an offset from it, like UTC−5 or UTC+2. Many regions shift their offset by an hour for part of the year (daylight saving time), which is why the difference between two cities can change seasonally. The offset shown here reflects the rules in effect at the selected date.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert time zones?

Pick the source and destination zones above, set a time (or leave it on “now”), and the converter shows the matching local time in each zone plus the offset between them.

What is UTC and how does it relate to time zones?

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the world's time standard. Every time zone is defined as an offset from UTC — for example, New York is UTC−5 in winter and UTC−4 in summer. Converting between zones means comparing their offsets.

What is the difference between EST and EDT?

EST (Eastern Standard Time, UTC−5) applies in winter; EDT (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC−4) applies during daylight saving in summer. This converter switches between them automatically based on the date.

How many time zones are there in the world?

There are 24 standard hourly zones, but in practice around 38–40 distinct offsets exist because some regions use 30- or 45-minute offsets (such as India at UTC+5:30 or Nepal at UTC+5:45).

What time is it in a major city?

The world clock below shows the current local time in New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, Sydney, and Dubai, updating live. Use the converter for any other city in the list.

What is IST (Israel Standard Time)?

Israel Standard Time is UTC+2, used in winter; in summer Israel observes daylight saving (IDT, UTC+3). Select Jerusalem in the converter to handle the switch automatically. (Note: IST can also mean India Standard Time, UTC+5:30 — choose Mumbai/Kolkata for that.)
