Unit Converter

Convert between length, weight, temperature, area, volume, speed, time, and data units instantly.

Convert between units across eight categories — length, weight, temperature, area, volume, speed, time, and data — in one place. Pick a category, enter a value, and choose your units for an instant, precise result.

Below the converter, a reference table shows your value in every unit at once. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Formula

Standard units

result = value × (from factor ÷ to factor)

Each unit has a factor to a common base; converting is a single multiply-and-divide.

Temperature

°F = °C × 9/5 + 32; K = °C + 273.15

Temperature uses offset formulas rather than a simple factor.

How to use the unit converter

  1. 1Choose a category (Length, Weight, Temperature, Area, Volume, Speed, Time, or Data).
  2. 2Enter a value and pick the “from” and “to” units — the result updates instantly.
  3. 3Use the swap button to reverse the conversion, or read the full table to see every unit at once.

Metric and imperial in one tool

This converter covers both the metric (SI) system — meters, kilograms, liters — and the imperial/US customary system — feet, pounds, gallons — so you can move between them freely. Length, weight, area, and volume all include the common units from both systems, while temperature handles Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin with their proper offset formulas.

How the conversions work

Every unit in a category is defined by its factor to a single base unit (for example, meters for length or grams for weight). Converting is then a single step: multiply by the source unit's factor and divide by the target unit's factor. Temperature is the exception — Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin are related by offset formulas, not a simple ratio, so those are handled separately for exact results.

Binary vs. decimal data units

The Data category uses the binary convention standard in computing: 1 byte = 8 bits and 1 KB = 1,024 bytes, so 1 GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes (1024³). Operating systems and storage tools typically report sizes this way. Some manufacturers advertise capacity using decimal units (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes), which is why a “1 TB” drive can show as less once formatted.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert kilometers to miles?

Multiply kilometers by 0.621371 to get miles. For example, 10 km = 6.21371 miles. Use the Length tab above and select km → miles for instant conversion.

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Use the formula F = (C × 9/5) + 32. So 100°C = 212°F and 0°C = 32°F. Select the Temperature tab above for instant conversion.

How many pounds are in a kilogram?

1 kilogram = 2.20462 pounds. To convert kg to lbs, multiply by 2.20462. To convert lbs to kg, divide by 2.20462 (or multiply by 0.453592).

What is the difference between metric and imperial units?

The metric system (SI) uses base-10 units: meters, kilograms, liters. The imperial system uses units like feet, pounds, and gallons, common in the US and UK. Most of the world uses metric; the US primarily uses imperial for everyday measurements.

How many bytes are in a gigabyte?

1 gigabyte (GB) = 1,073,741,824 bytes (1024³), using the binary definition standard in computing. In SI (decimal) terms, 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes, but binary is the convention used by operating systems and storage devices.

How do I convert acres to square feet?

1 acre = 43,560 square feet. Use the Area tab above and select acres → sq ft.

How many teaspoons are in a tablespoon?

1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons. Use the Volume tab for all cooking unit conversions.

What is a knot in speed?

A knot is 1 nautical mile per hour, equal to approximately 1.852 km/h or 1.151 mph. Knots are used in maritime and aviation navigation.
